Each one of us has a core strength that will survive any hurt. Some call it Soul or Spirit. some call it Life Energy. I call it Love

Wisdom comes with age and experience – at least that’s what we hope; it’s not true in every case. Why do I call my web page WISDOM’S BRIDGE? Because when we get older it’s like we enter a new phase in our life; we cross a bridge into our inner wisdom, a place of spiritual richness, a vein of purest gold, that is ours to discover and to share. That’s what I find exciting about “teaching” older adults. There’s nothing, in my experience, like sitting down with a group of adults and sharing our experiences.

Video: Fredricson on Positive Emotions.

Barbara Fredrickson’s book, using the best scientific methods, establishes the benefits of Positivity for our mental, physical and relational health.

Positivity fits into a broader interest of mine, Positive Psychology, very well promoted by Martin Seligman and others. I refer especially to Seligman’s book “Flourish”. Fredrickson worked closely with Seligman

Her book is a self-help book of an unusual kind, in that the principles and applications she uses are all solidly evidence based and carefully tested. I have no interest in books that are not evidence based, while not denying the appeal or usefulness of untested methods.

I wouldn’t call this a miracle cure for our ills, but it certainly is an important part of the new integrative medicine.
I like to think of an inner core or Spirit, our life energy, that is responsible for our health and wellbeing. Positivity gives us a connection to our inner core and also to our health. Our emotions play a big part in our wellbeing and hence our health.

My interest in Positivity is, at it’s simplest, to alert people to the power of positivity. I want them to appreciate its efficacy through their own experience. Beyond that basis, I want to train people to use it for their own good, to make it available to as many people as I can. and to incorporate positivity as part of my coaching and therapy.

This is the name of the course I’m teaching at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute At The University Of Michigan (Just “Osher” for short). I can’t tell you how much I enjoy teaching adults, fifty and older, at Osher and at Elderwise (Cleary University). I learn so much from the collective wisdom that percolates in the classroom as we share experiences and inspiration.

Do you wake up in the morning looking forward to the day; or do you dread the day ahead?
I want to enable people to solve the kinds of problems that keep them awake at night, and the negative thoughts and feelings that sabotage their efforts to be peaceful, relaxed, confident and successful. I want especially to show people – and have them appreciate - the immense strength and power they possess, and to give them the tools they need to use that power.

I welcome men and women age fifty and older, who are looking for more, who are dealing with change, and with aging and who worry about their health. They may be experiencing anxiety and depression, loss, difficult relationships, chronic diseases, surgery, diabetes, emotional eating, obesity, insomnia, smoking or heart.
People who want to have a life, who have plans, want to go to the next level in their lives and fully enjoy their later years, who want to go on learning, loving, creating.
People who want to explore what life can offer spiritually, developing spirit, spirituality, and wisdom.
Meaning and purpose. What makes my life worthwhile?
